The
event was grandly staged with giant screens, attractive female attendants about
1600 members in attendance. Vanni Treves and Charles Thomson answered questions
for about 2-3 hours but only got through about half of those put down.
The official slate of Directors was elected thanks to proxies granted to the
Chairman, but there were substantial votes against some of these official candidates.
Of the independents two of the EMAG committee members standing scored the largest
number of positive votes of any of the lay members, Adrian Howard-Jones receiving
125,891 and Paul Braithwaite 124,669. If this shows that the confidence and
intellectual vigour of the EMAG committee was communicated to the electorate
through the statements, advertising and media, nevertheless it leaves the rather
uninspiring official Board in position.
